Friedrich Krotz, coordinator of the Priority Program helds a presentation about social reliationships in mediatized societies
We live our life and develop our identities in social relationships - relationships are evolved from and framed by communication. In the past, mediated communication in the private sphere - for instance by letter or via the landline phone - was normally an exeption. In the mediatized social life of today, relationships are constituted by face-to-face-communication and by media at the same time: via social software like Facebook and Xing or in computer games, chats or by the ubiquitous mobile phone. Because we communicate in that way, such forms of mediated communication and mediated persons are present in our net of social relations: as presenter of news and shows in the TV, as the favorite actor or actress in daily soaps, but also as computer-generated figures like Lara Croft and Tamagotchi-related robots.
Against this background and on a conceptual level Friedrich Krotz adresses questions about the changes of communication in social relationships. The presentation takes plase at March 19, 2012, 18.15 at the"Theatersaal" at the Austrian Academy of Sciences in Vienna
